1 in 5 seniors take potentially harmful drugs, study finds

An analysis of data on more than 6 million people with Medicare Advantage coverage in 2009 showed that more than 1 in 5 seniors were given a prescription for a "high-risk" drug. The rate of prescriptions for these potentially harmful drugs was greater in the Southeast and among female patients and residents of poor areas. The findings appear in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
