Shrubs that offer beauty and function, such as azaleas, are increasingly gaining traction, according to home-improvement retailer Lowe's. These shrubs can produce long-lasting flowers and add beauty while acting as fences, Sanette Tanaka writes. Lowe's meets with merchants and breeders annually to choose new shrub varieties, such as the "Forever and Ever" hydrangea and the "Bloomerang" lilac.
