President Barack Obama's proposal to reduce spending on Social Security and Medicare isn't getting backing from either political party. Republicans say the initiative doesn't go far enough, while Democrats argue that it goes too far. White House spokesman Jay Carney said the cuts were included only because Obama thought Republicans would want them in a deficit-reduction deal.
