Radiation treatment linked to mortality after heart surgery

Chest radiation therapy was associated with nearly double the risk of death among cancer survivors who had major heart surgery, a study in Circulation revealed. Researchers examined 478 heart surgery patients and found 55% of patients who had received radiation treatment died during a mean follow-up of almost eight years, compared with 28% of those who did not undergo radiation.
