Report calls on companies to increase wellness efforts

About 26% of U.S. adults are sedentary, with a similar percentage being obese, so employers should increase health and wellness programs to address these issues and reduce health costs, according to a MetLife Mature Market Institute report. Institute director Sandra Timmermann said reducing chronic disease rates leads to less disability and lowers medical costs, and employers play an important role by promoting healthy behaviors through wellness initiatives.
