Senate Democrats urge EPA to tighten fracking regulations

The Environmental Protection Agency should tighten oversight of natural gas drillers to make sure that chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing do not seep into drinking-water supplies, Democrats said Tuesday at a Senate hearing. However, when it comes to curbing methane release at fracking wells, there are existing technologies, said Robert Perciasepe, EPA's deputy administrator. "These are generally problems that can be addressed through proper controls or through collection controls at the wellhead," Perciasepe said.
