50,000th vet, spouse hired by U.S. employers will work at KCS

Instead of announcing that U.S. employers had hired 50,000 veterans or military spouses, First Lady Michelle Obama during her stop at Kansas City Southern in Louisiana told everyone that employers had hired 60,000 -- the 50,000 was reached last month. More than 13% of the KCS workforce in Shreveport are military veterans, and Michael Abitago Jr., who will soon be a KCS conductor, was the 50,000th vet hired nationwide. "We believe strongly in our men and women in the armed forces. We want to be there for them when they come back," said KCS President and CEO David Starling.
