Oracle patent lawsuit could set precedents

A federal court jury will begin hearing arguments Monday in Oracle's lawsuit against Google in a trial that industry observers say could affect developers of all platforms. The case involves the question of whether software application programming interfaces are protected. Oracle, which is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, alleges that Google violated its patents and copyrights in using Java software to design Android.
