Google considering Gmail changes

Google said it may change Gmail to address widespread privacy concerns before the ad-supported e-mail service is made available to the public. The search giant said it may take three to six months to evaluate test users' comments before deciding how to ultimately shape the e-mail system, which currently scans users' written text to provide targeted ads.
