Hawaii teacher combines video gaming, algebra in tournament:

A Hawaii high-school teacher recently organized a video-game tournament that combines students' love of gaming with math. Students compete in teams, playing video games that prompt them to solve math problems. Teacher Amelia Cook says the video games -- which are combined with in-class lessons -- have motivated her Algebra I students to learn and improved students' feelings toward math.
