DISH challenges Softbank for Sprint with $25.5B bid

DISH Network put in a $25.5 billion unsolicited offer to buy Sprint Nextel, which outpaces Japan-based Softbank's $20 million offer made last year for a 70% share of the third-largest U.S. wireless carrier. DISH Chairman Charlie Ergen made a pitch for the new deal saying, "This unique, combined company will have a leadership position in video, data and voice and the necessary broadband spectrum to provide customers with rich content everywhere, all the time."
