NPs, dentists team up to improve access to care

Nurse practitioners and dentists at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond are working together to improve patient care as part of the Neighborhood Partners Practice program. Dental patients can get comprehensive exams from nurse practitioners. "It's a new model ... so that you can have sort of one-stop shopping," said Nancy Langston, dean of the VCU School of Nursing. The visits are a chance to identify chronic conditions, provide care and encourage patients to address their health needs, said the dean of the university's dental school.
