Verizon reportedly makes $1.5B bid for Clearwire spectrum

Verizon Wireless is reportedly looking to purchase Clearwire spectrum leases for $1.5 billion. The offer, from "Party J," was revealed in securities filings by Clearwire. Those familiar with the transaction say "Party J" is Verizon, although the carrier is not commenting. Clearwire has agreed to sell itself to Sprint Nextel, which must approve the offer, but the sale could help keep Clearwire afloat while the merger proceeds.
