Why "feminine" traits are key for successful leadership

Leaders may be more effective when they embrace characteristics such as empathy, selflessness and loyalty that many people consider to be feminine, according to research by John Gerzema and Michael D'Antonio, authors of "The Athena Doctrine." They based their conclusions on a global survey of 64,000 individuals who were asked to classify various traits as either masculine or feminine and to assess their value in terms of leadership. "Again and again, our data and interviews kept showing us that femininity is the operating system of the 21st century -- and that women, and the men who can think like them, are creating a world we'll all want to inhabit," Gerzema said.
