Study: Missouri River channel needs more space for floodwaters

The Missouri River channel and not its upstream reservoirs should have more room for floodwaters, according to a study by the Army Corps of Engineers. "We've got to have adequate channel capacity to accommodate whatever flow we decide to," said Brig. Gen. John McMahon of the Corps of Engineers, adding that "generally, it's moving the levees further back to accommodate whatever flow you want to design an improved system to."
