Big data drives retail's future in real time

Macy's has increased store sales 10% since it traded Excel spreadsheets for analytics software that analyzes huge floods of data daily, from social media chatter to store transactions, said Karem Tomak, Macys.com vice president of analytics. The retailer and others including Kroger, Sears and Target are increasingly investing in big data to gain and keep a competitive edge.
