FDA: Extension for comment deadline on FSMA produce safety is possible

The FDA is thinking about moving the May 16 deadline for comments on the produce safety rule to a later date following multiple requests from stakeholders, said James Gorny, the agency's senior adviser for produce safety. Various farm groups have asked for additional time to review the proposed preventive controls rule and the produce safety rule under the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act.
