Hopscotch app uses kid-friendly visual programming

The Hopscotch visual programming application "is purposely bright, colorful and welcoming to kids between ages 8 and 12," Erica Ogg writes. Based on the Scratch programming language, the developers hope using Hopscotch to create rudimentary games on Apple iPads will serve as an educational tool attracting children, especially girls, to the world of programming.
