Officials use social media to reach public after Boston blasts

Law enforcement personnel in Boston used social media in the response to the Boston Marathon blasts that killed at least three people. First responders posted real-time updates on Twitter, and the Boston police used the site to confirm the explosions. When people started losing cell service as wireless companies got overloaded, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency tweeted that people should try texting instead because it uses less bandwidth.
