Saturated fat can be part of balanced diet, expert says

Dietary recommendations call for eating less saturated fat to reduce the risk of heart disease, but Georgetown University Medical Center neuroendocrinologist Thomas Sherman says that whether to consume animal fat or lard should be part of decisions about balancing carbohydrates with fat and protein and balancing types of fats to achieve a healthy overall diet. He says a healthy diet ideally includes a variety of minimally processed foods with a diversity of fats, which can include saturated fat.
