Alcohol abuse raises risk of death from HAIs, study finds

A study in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research found that patients with alcohol use disorders who contracted health care-associated infections were 71% more likely to die from HAIs, stayed in the hospital two days longer and had almost $7,500 more in hospital costs compared with counterparts without such disorders.
