China's bioplastics potential should be tapped, analyst says

China's potential to expand bioplastics production is underutilized despite the country's status as the world's largest plastics consumer, said Bruno Rudnik, managing owner at SusTech Consult. Meanwhile, Thailand is a bioplastics leader even though China "is 20 times the size of Thailand in terms of population, has a greater GDP and chemical demand is 50 times greater," Rudnik said. A study shows that Chinese plastics processors know little about bioplastics and "don't feel they are being approached by Western material suppliers," he added.
