FDG better than FLT in diagnosing thyroid metastases

A study from Japan found that 18F-FDG performed better than 18F-FLT in diagnosing differentiated thyroid metastases and is more useful in assessing recurrence of postoperative differenti­ated thyroid cancer. In terms of per-patient detection, 18F-FDG showed 92% sensitivity and 86% specificity, compared with 18F-FLT's 69% sensitivity and 29% specificity. For detecting metastases to lymph nodes, FDG showed 85% sensitivity and 99.5% specificity, compared with 50% sensitivity and 90.7% specificity for FLT.
