Medtech product approvals drop in Australia

The number of new medtech products approved in Australia declined throughout the last quarter of 2012 and first quarter of 2013, and the trend is expected to continue if the government sets stricter standards for higher risk products. The Therapeutic Goods Administration has proposed increasing pre-market scrutiny of medical devices and making its decision-making process more transparent, which could lead to delayed approvals.
