Combination liposuction removes fat, tightens skin

Laser-assisted and power-assisted liposuction devices preserved septal fibers better than internal ultrasound or water-assisted liposuction devices in a study comparing liposuction in the abdominal region. Some laser-assisted devices and wavelengths tighten the skin better than others, and they can cause burns if not used carefully, says dermatologist Kimberly Butterwick. Laser lipolysis removes less fat than tumescent liposuction, and Butterwick says she usually performs tumescent liposuction first, then uses laser-assisted devices to tighten the skin.
