AAFP expresses concerns about draft plan to repeal SGR, boost pay

A U.S. House plan calls for repealing the sustainable growth rate formula and moving Medicare to a value-based payment system using performance measures to improve care. AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., in a letter to two House committees, said while the AAFP supports eliminating the SGR, quality improvement requires more than just the use of performance measures. "Payment reform needs to include revisions to fee-for-service, especially higher payment rates for primary care and payment for the coordination of care," Stream wrote.
