Ala. Senate OKs bill to expand NP prescribing powers

A bill that would permit certified registered nurse practitioners and nurse midwives to prescribe level 3, 4, and 5 drugs has passed the Alabama Senate with bipartisan backing. The measure would improve access to care, said Sen. Greg Reed, a Republican and the sponsor of the bill. The legislation will be considered in the House, which has approved a similar proposal.
