Free on-demand content is surging in popularity, study finds

The number of viewers watching network series on demand jumped 60% in 2012, compared with the previous year, Rentrak has found. Among the most-popular on-demand content were "The Big Bang Theory" and "Family Guy," according to cablers. The Rentrak research also shows that time spent watching free, on-demand programming last year grew by more than 40% and the amount of such content increased by 29%, compared with 2011.
