House bill focuses on workplace-safety enforcement

Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., has introduced a bill that would give the Occupational Safety and Health Administration more authority over state workplace-safety plans and toughen penalties for companies that knowingly violate OSHA regulations. The Government Accountability Office released a report last week that says state budget and staffing cuts have compromised safety at some workplaces.
