How to keep risk-seeking clients out of trouble

Clients worried about missing out on rising market returns may be eager to take on too much risk, say experts, and it takes a careful hand for an adviser to ease them back from the edge. Mark McLennon of Investment Advisory Services says he walks such clients through a tool that shows the likely outcome of such strategies. "It's one thing to answer a question on a risk-tolerance questionnaire, but to actually see how it impacts your plan can get people to think about risk a little differently," McLennon says.
