The overwhelming word-of-mouth-marketing success of the novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" has altered the way traditional publishers do business, writes Bethany Sales. Author E.L. James was able to land a publishing deal on the strength of the 37,000 online reviews and comments, which she received after self-publishing the first book in the trilogy. "[T]he consensus among publishers seems to be that a self-published book gone viral will translate into a bestselling print book," Sales writes.
