Report: GE ties with Vestas as top turbine supplier in 2012

General Electric and Vestas Wind Systems were tied as the biggest suppliers of wind turbines in 2012, with each accounting for about 5.7 gigawatts of turbines, ending Vestas' 12-year run as sole market leader, according to a report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Siemens came in third, followed by Enercon and Suzlon Energy, the report showed. The wind-energy Production Tax Credit resulted in a record 13.6 gigawatts of new capacity last year in the U.S., where GE and Vestas sold 96% and 40% of their turbines, respectively, BNEF said.
