Case Western Reserve University biomedical researchers have engineered an insulin protein molecule which offers hope to diabetics worried about the link between insulin and some forms of cancer. "Our team has applied the perspective of biomedical engineering to the biochemistry of a therapeutic protein. We regard the injected insulin solution as forming a new biomaterial that can be engineered to optimize its nano-scale properties," said Dr. Michael Weiss, who led the research team.
