LA distensibility is an independent predictor of mortality

Left atrial distensibility is strongly associated with elevated left ventricular filling pressure and is a better predictor of elevated LVFP than echocardiographic parameters, according to researchers at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan. The research also found that LA distensibility is a predictor of in-hospital mortality after acute myocardial infarction, and LA volume is associated with long-term outcome.
