AVMA defends mobile veterinarians' controlled substances access

In an effort to ensure that mobile veterinarians across the country can transport and administer controlled substances, most notably pain medication and euthanasia solution, to provide needed medical care, the AVMA is imploring the public and veterinarians to take action. A new take on the Controlled Substances Act says that mobile veterinarians carrying and administering such substances outside of their registered area are in violation of the statute as it stands. Some veterinarians in Washington state and California have already been notified that they are going against the law.
