Some small companies are thinking about using part-time workers to avoid some of the requirements of the new health care law, but there are potential drawbacks to this approach, experts say. Using part-time workers can make it more difficult to provide consistent customer service, and it can also negatively affect employee loyalty. Some part-time workers might leave as soon as they can find full-time work that provides health insurance.
