Imaging chip could bring "X-ray vision" to smartphones

Researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas have developed an imaging chip that uses terahertz light waves to detect things that are not visible to the human eye such as the studs behind a wall or tiny cracks in vases. The IC can be fabricated with a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor process, making it practical for future use in smartphones.
