3 American Airlines unions back a merger with US Airways

Three American Airlines unions representing about 55,000 workers in the U.S. said they will support a merger with US Airways. Doug Parker, chief executive of US Airways, said a merger would save 6,200 of the 13,000 jobs that would be done away with under American Airlines' bankruptcy reorganization plan. However, Parker stressed that the news does not mean that the airlines have agreed to merge.
