Analysis: Some HTML5 game engines lower developer entry barriers

Angry Birds Chrome, Z-Type and Entanglement are the most popular of 1,319 HTML5 games that Clay.io CEO Austin Hallock was able to find via a spider he developed. Construct 2, Impact JavaScript and GameMaker are the game engines most often employed, he writes. "GameMaker and Construct 2 lower the barrier to entry for developing games -- you don't need to know JavaScript to do so, which is why you see each of these with a large number of overall games but also a large drop-off once it's narrowed down to just the most popular," Hallock writes.
