Asbestos-removal allegations put Chicago renovation on hold

Three companies involved in the renovation of a Chicago hospital and hotel building will halt their asbestos-removal efforts and take steps under an agreed interim order to prevent the further release of the material, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said. State Environmental Protection Agency inspectors reported observing workers engaging in improper and unlawful asbestos-removal activities at the site, leading to an eight-count complaint against the three firms.
