Chile welcomes new education minister

Carolina Schmidt, who previously served as minister of the National Womens' Service, has been named the new education minister in Chile, replacing Harald Beyer, who was impeached last week. "The new education minister assumes a mandate that is ambitious, clear and very demanding," President Sebastian Pinera said. "That mandate seeks to advance firmly, without hesitation, toward a country that can assure all its children and young people quality education."
