CI therapy increases gray matter in children with cerebral palsy

MRI scans of 10 children with cerebral palsy following constraint-induced movement therapy revealed increases in their gray matter, particularly in the sensorimotor cortices and in the hippocampus, and an improvement in motor skills. The researchers said it was unclear whether structural changes in the brain caused improvements in motor skills or whether motor improvements led to the brain changes. The findings appear in the journal Pediatrics.
