Crews go down 8 stories for 137 foundation caissons for Wis. hospital

Drilling work is underway for the placement of 137 concrete support cylinders that will stabilize the foundation of St. Elizabeth Hospital's $108 million expansion project in Appleton, Wis. A drilling rig is burrowing almost eight stories below the surface in the pit where the caissons are to be embedded, after which concrete will be poured for the foundation and footings of the five-story building.
