Defect concerns prompt recall of Covidien's ventilator batteries

Covidien is voluntarily recalling certain units of its Power Pac batteries that come with the company's Newport HT70 and HT70 Plus ventilators, the FDA said in a notice. The recall is prompted by concerns that some of the devices may indicate that the battery is fully charged when it is not or switch to a back-up battery prematurely.
