Expert touts the power benefits of Intel USB technology

Intel's new transfer protocols promise to significantly boost the speed and ease of sharing files between computing devices, but Jeff Ravencraft, president of the USB Implementers Forum, says as an added benefit, the Thunderbolt and USB SuperSpeed specifications could revolutionize "the way computers, peripheral devices and even HDTVs will not only consume but deliver power." Ravencraft says that by increasing bidirectional power transfer from 10 watts to 100 watts, USB SuperSpeed could enable both large and small devices to draw their power from a single USB hub.
