IRA conference culminates with focus on teachers making a difference

San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro addressed educators at the International Reading Association's 58th Annual Conference, referencing the theme of the event -- "Celebrating Teachers Making A Difference." The four-day conference drew 7,000 teachers, literacy researchers, school administrators, and education policy analysts worldwide. Among other things, Castro touched on his own education experiences and also recalled when his first-grade teacher challenged him in his work and made him feel special in the classroom.
