Switzerland cites MiFID as example of EU protectionism

Michael Ambuehl, Switzerland's state secretary for international financial matters, has called the EU protectionist and says changes to financial rules are causing fragmentation. "Switzerland is concerned by protectionist tendencies in international financial markets. MiFID is an example," Ambuehl said, referring to the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive. Ambuehl's comments highlight challenges faced by authorities worldwide as they make regulatory changes.
