Leaders from Abu Dhabi, Europe, Asia and Africa attending a Global Vaccine Summit this week will support a $5.5 billion plan to eradicate polio in the next five years. The effort seeks to downplay Western funding and include Muslim governments and businesses. The campaign will also phase out oral polio vaccine in favor of an injected alternative that is more expensive but removes the risk of outbreaks from the “live” polio in the oral version.
