Column: Mow grass carefully to boost lawn health

Grass should be mowed only up to one-third of the blade's length to encourage root development and prevent weed growth, master gardener Joe Lamp'l writes. Lawn mower blades should be sharpened to cut grass evenly, and clippings should be left on the lawn to add nutrients, Lamp'l advises.
