$1.6B San Francisco subway project advances with borer arrival

The first of the two tunnel boring machines that will be used for the $1.6 billion Central Subway Project in San Francisco is expected to arrive this week, while the second machine will arrive in June. The 300-foot borer will be assembled in a 500-foot "launch box." This portion of the project, which is slated to be completed in 2019, will extend the T-Third Street light-rail line and add four new stations. Tutor Perini was the low bidder.
